Over the years I have noticed that one of the biggest problems people have in getting what they want is being able to communicate it. The best way I know to build up confidence and get organized is in Toastmasters. You learn how to function effectively in awkward situations, get over fear of public speaking, learn how to run a meeting, proper use of the language, how to get your message across and you build up a personal network of friends and associates. Visit Toastmasters.org and/or attend a meeting nearby. I live in Houston and there are over 200 groups here alone.
